Feeding the sick

There are many ways of feeding the sick.Some can take only liquid nourishment,milk, gruels, fruit juice and broths, as during the first days of a fever disease or after a major operation.After two or three days, in these conditions,the patient is place on semisolid diet consisting of milk,soft boiled eggs, toast, strainned cereals, puree of vegetables, fruit juice, custard, gelatin, pudding, jello and ice cream.

During the convalescence, a full diet in greater quantities than for a healthy person, distributed during the day at short intervals, is indicated, the food must be light and easily digestible.Some patient have to be feed through a stomach tube inserted into the mouth or into the nostril and passing down the pharynx, gullet and stomach.

The food consist of egg and milk mixture, eggnog, strained cereal and sugar solutions.Introduction of food into a vein is now practiced frequently
