Germicide

Germicide or bacterecide is a agent which kill germs.Germs may be destroyed by chemicals such as cresol, lysol, carbolic acid, bichloride of mercury and iodine and by the dye germicides such as mercurochrome, methapen, merthiolate, gentian violet, brilliant green and methylene blue.

The milder antiseptics, like peroxide and boric acid, do not kill germs but merely hinder their rapid development, and that is why they are not bactericidal, only bacteriostatic.Even the strong antiseptics have to be used in concentrated solutions in order to kill bacteria right off in matter of minutes

Boiling and dry or moist heat under pressure are the surest ways of destroying bacteria in inanimate objects, as dressings, instruments, clothes, tableware and other utensils.Boiling for half an hour or steaming under pressure for one hour will not only destroy all germs but also their spores.Spores are offshoots of germ which in time develop fullfledged germs.these spores are very resistant go germicides
